Zumiez Strategy

In this article it was really interesting to see how big retail chain skate shops work, like Zumiez or Tilly's. It said that their plan is to open 60 new shops in the year of 2013. Through the years of 2010-2012 they had open of 133 new stores, with the total net sales increasing. In 2010 they had total of 4.7% ,  2011 7.3 %, and in 2012 11.2% of total net sales. It has showed me that opening new stores increase the net sales dramatically. With small skate shop business they well never really open 133 unless it really has the capability, but they can still  open more than one shop. Utility Board Supply has more than one shop, they have a total of 5, 3 in wonderful California and 2 in Arizona. This comes to show that many skate shops can increase their total net sales by opening more than one shop, but it sure is not easy.

The article also mentioned that their succes of the shop was "brand exposure that we receive from our marketing events, promotions and activities that embody the action sports lifestyle". With retail chain stores like Zumiez, they have the capability to do this marketing events and promotions. By having connections with other skate shops or skate shop related businesses you can plan and have these events. If you want to read more feel free to click the link below.

Blog 21: Independent Component 2

LITERAL
(a) I, Eric Santizo, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) With the help of Ortega, I did my independent component on saylor.org, a free online courses built by proferssors. There are many courses anyone can take with topics like art history, philosphy, to economics. This is where I did partially most of all of my independent component, which I surprisingly enjoyed.
(c)Spreadsheet hours
(d) I completed Unit 1, talking about the elements of an Entrepreneur, on the course I was taking, BUS305: Small Business Managment. It had lots of interesting and knowledgable readings, so I did a LOT of reading. There was also some videos and assements but it consisted more of readings. I also did part of Unit 2, building your team, to get my hours. I plan to finish all Units but it really is time consuming but enjoyable.

INTERPRETIVE
For my indepent component, it is a lot of reading and watching videos on my own will. Through every unit and subunit I have written down notes.
This was my first assesment were I had to plug in the right vocabulary in the passage. The words are red but it actually means that I got it right not wrong.

This is my Saylor Portfolio. The cours that I took was BUS305. I am done with 30 hours but not done with the whole course yet, it is 151 hours total. I am planning on finishing it.
This is the first page of notes I took. It is on the Introduction Readings of Unit 1 talking about entrepreneurship and economist.
These are futher notes into the course.
And more notes about the difference of an entreperneur and intrapreneur.
APPLIED
This component really helped me understand my second answer better which is understanding business. I got a history background on small business and how popular they were until around the 1880s, with bigger businesses coming up. Even though big compaines and businesses have down sized small business, they are still popluar because they cultivate characther and builds democracy. It has also taught me the meaning of an entrepreneur, the elements one has, and what they do. Right now I am on Unit 2 talking about managment; I plan on finishing that and the rest of the Units.

TRANSWORLD ACTION SPORTS STOCK INDEX

  • I found this article on Transworld Business; I found it very interesting because I feel like it is important to know what the prices are in the market in order to know what the best supply is for your retail. You can see that it reached 39.5 in the closing of Feburary, which increased from January, breaking a new record! To read more about this you can click on the article yourself, you can find it below the graph.

Blog 19: Senior Project and ESLRs

1.  What ESLR have you excelled in most in your senior project?

  • The ESLR that I have excelled the most in my senior project would have to be "Effective Learner".

2.  Please explain why you think you have excelled in this ESLR.

  • The reason why I think I have excelled in this ESLR because the only way to gain knowledge on your senior project is for yourself to do research and find interesting facts involving your project. I try to find a lot of resources and look for research involving skateboarding. I do the same thing when it comes down to the business side of it.

3.  Provide evidence from your senior project to support your claim (evidence is a photo of something you are doing, photo of something you made, etc).

  • This is some stuff I gave away in one of my presentation that all came from the skate shop, Covert. I feel like this is good evidence because I did struggle finding a shop for mentorship and I really have learned a lot from it.
